Just some Hester screen grabs, including the save I made around a particular character conversation because I was not expecting to be quite so directly attacked at 3am.
Hester is probably going to romance Harding and their scenes have the romantic lighting and gorgeous interludes in the conservatory to back that up, but, gotta say: both Rook and Harding looking up (and up) at Taash makes me consider other options and long for poly routes in the game.
A few slightly more spoilery rambles:
The purple/jokey options are, frankly, a bit of a disapointment. (Exception to this: Rook's drawl of "no..." when Emmerich described himself as a "terribly maudlin child." I cackled.)
I felt similarly with the sarcastic options for Ryder in Andromeda, but am having an easier time of it here because Rook seems to have fallen into a very familial relationship with Varric, and my headcanon is that this kid Varric picked up on the road has somehow become his kid (who he tries not to swear in front of, which is the only way I can reconcile "Solas's timing stinks" and "oh crap" in those opening cutcenes). Hester adores everying he represents and is always trying for cool wordplay and charisma and...it's only sometimes landing. And for situations where they feel more confident, like their place (despite everything) in the grey wardens, they default more to strong options. But seriously - let me be caustic, I beg you...
Speaking of grey wardens: I'm glad I picked this for the first origin because the small details they are managing to fit in are quite enjoyable and are also leading to a rather fun adverserial (complimentary) relationship with Davrin, where they have experienced many of the same frustrations and even have similar coping skills, but admitting that would be TERRIBLE for some reason (mostly because Hester is not sure what to make of Davrin's griffon parenting choices).
The Grey Warden origin and Hester's general acceptance of their own eventual blighted death/the ritual elements of Warden life mean they are very at ease in the Necropolis and with Emmerich generally. They're developing a fun friendship and I will absolutely find someone to romance him. (Also, fuck you, Emmerich. You get 10 students in your classes and you're complaining about teaching loads? ...I appreciate whoever wrote that bit.)
ISABELA MY BELOVED.
I have to write so many Merribela and Liadan/Isabela/Fenris Ot3 fics involving Isabela and the Lords of Fortune Now. (Also Isabela/Josephine. I have thoughts). Also, damn right you send cultural artefacts back where they came from, Isabela. You'd better.
Morrigan is also a much more fun cameo here than in Inquisition ("I understand now why he never appreciated it when I explained..." I am dead). Very curious about her skincare routine, though. Isabela's, too.
Lucanis is a delight and, so far, less messy than I imagined. I enjoy the cooking, and am curious about demons in non-mages. His distress at necromancy as undoing good work is fantastic, and I love delivery overall.
Neve hates me forever, at least a little bit. The Treviso/Minrathous choice was a gut-punch and I do wish it had come just a little later - it felt really evil to have to make this choice before I'd even met everyone. Possibly the point. But I'm still not sure how I feel there. Also, I wish Viper was Fenris. Well, maybe not in this playthrough since he'd be in for an even more terrible time than usual, but...c'mon, game.
I want to know all about Bellara and Emmerich's correspondence.
All of Harding's letters are wonderful aaaah
Harding's relationship with Varric makes me happy, and the conversation that she and Hester had about Leliana just gifting nugs everywhere was very well done. I really hope we get to explore more about the Titans/dwarven history, and that Harding's abilities aren't just convenient traversal hacks. I have hope! The letter from Dagna was also great, and Harding in general appears to trigger some truly useless sapphic lines from Rook and I am here for it.
Also! The link between Solas's dagger and Varric's red lyrium idol is intriguing - hope the game sticks the landing, wherever it goes there.
Taash is great and their plotline with their mother has me rather frightened. I knew from about the time their mother misgendered Hester the general direction, but I was not expecting the Neve, Taash, Rook conversation as early as it came up. I had some great options there, though.
...I have had to completely turn off any wider internet commentary on the game because it is getting fucking toxic around gender stuff in a way that I am not surprised by but that is hitting me in all sorts of dark places right now.
I'm only just about to go to Weisshaupt, main plot wise, so nothing has been concluded and the writers may completely drop the ball, but...that conversation meant a lot. ("No one likes being a woman, right?" Taash, dearest...) I probably will have more coherent words on it later.

Day Six - Free Day
Barry hadn’t played the piano in… a while. Though he had some decent excuses! For one, where the hell was he going to find a piano? It’s not like they conveniently popped up in every plane they visited. For another— well. Actually, no, the apocalypse was Barry’s one excuse. His one non-shitty excuse, at least.
His mom taught him to play piano when he was younger. She’d always rope him into more lessons promising sweets or, on one very memorable occasion, a new telescope. And Barry did genuinely like playing the piano. But after she died, his passion for it kinda… went with her. The piano had been her thing. From there on out, any misplaced note felt like a disappointment to her.
He missed her a lot. He missed home a lot. The house he grew up in, the neighbors he came to know so well, the cats that roamed around the neighborhood, and the birds he learned to play to. How could he possibly even attempt to play the piano when he wasn’t in the right place?
“Keep your eyes shut,” Lup said.
“They are shut,” Barry said, before running directly into the wall. Lup laughed, loud and way too close to his eyes. Barry squinted his eyes open, rubbing his head, but Lup said,
“Close ‘em, Bluejeans!”
And he had no other choice but to obey.
The apocalypse wasn’t all bad. Barry could have been stuck with a much shitty group of people. He could have been stuck with someone who wasn't Lup, which sounds like a very horrible version of hell. Sure, he had to deal with trying to hide that he was in love with her, but he was doing a pretty good job, if he did say so himself. No one besides Taako suspected a thing. Or Magnus. Or Merle. Or Dav. Or Luc—
He stumbled, holding very tightly onto Lup’s hand. Normally he’d be incredibly weary of her trying to lead him somewhere for a “surprise”. Last time this had happened, he ended up covered in a shit load of green slime. And Barry didn’t even wanna talk about the time before that. But Lup had seemed so genuine and earnest this time that he didn’t want to spoil it, even if he did end up covered in slime.
He knew they were in a building this time. Where in the building, he wasn't sure. A door groaned and they stepped through. Lup finally stopped.
“Okay,” she said. “You can open.”
Barry opened, blinking his eyes a few times to adjust to the light. The room that they were in was pretty small, but it was filled up as much as it could possibly be with various different broken down musical instruments. There were guitars on the wall and a disassembled drum kit on the floor. There was a clarinet snapped clean in half in the corner.
And in the center of it all stood a beautiful upright piano, not a sign of wear or tear in sight. The wood was polished, shining in the flickering light above.
It was almost like the one at home. It was- the wood was different, but it shined the same, or it had until Barry let the dust collect up on it. The seat had a cushion exactly like the one his mother used. Barry felt like something was caught in his throat.
“Do you—” Lup was looking at him, looking pleased. “Do you like it?”
“I—” Barry sniffed. He wiped his eyes. “I, uhm—”
“Oh, I— I’m sorry, I thought you—” Lup hugged her arms together, a little red in the face. “You said you used to play, and I was like, hey, I know where there’s a piano, and— I’m sorry, I shoulda asked if it was like, cool to bring it up again or—”
“No,” Barry said, his voice cracking. He rubbed at his eyes, desperately trying to wipe away the tears. “No, I— this is great, Lup, I love— I love it, for real, it’s— I’m— My mom would have loved you. This. Would have loved this.”
“Ah,” Lup said. “That’s… kinda a sore subject for you, sometimes.”
“Some—” Barry cleared his throat. “Sometimes it is, but in— in a good way, I swear. I, uhm— thank you, Lup.”
“You like it?”
“I love it,” Barry said, a little breathlessly. He meant it as a I love you, but the message came across super platonic, he was sure. She smiled at him, still sort of apprehensive. “Really. Do you wanna— any song requests? I can’t promise it’ll be good, but we can try.”
He walked towards the piano, resting his hand on top of it. God, it felt the same. He knew that was how wood worked, but it did make him have to blink back a few more tears.
“I think anything you do will be good,” Lup said. Aw geez, he really was all tears today. “Maybe, uhm— damn, I didn’t think this far ahead.”
“I might still know Fantasy All Star,” Barry said.

Show of the Week - Darksiders 2
Next one giffed and transcribed! Let me know if there are mistakes!
Also @outsidexboxofficial, is that Andy under that mask?
(Jane)
Hello and welcome to OutsideXbox’s Show of the Week. It’s a show, it’s weekly, and this time we’re all about Darksiders 2 and its hero, death.
(Andy)
Death, that reminds me, Mike died.
(Jane)
What?
(Andy)
Yeah, yeah, he died. He said that we should claim on his life insurance to use the money to build a better studio.
(Jane)
But, how, how did that happen?
(Andy)
Uh, that lighting rig. Remember from last week that fell on him.
[Dramatic/sad music plays]
(Jane)
Oh. Well I guess we’ll have to just try and move on and what better way than with our game of the week. The original Darksiders, released back in 2010, starred the first of its four horsemen of the apocalypse. That was War, who was framed for starting Armageddon too early. Now in Darksiders 2 you play as his bony brother, Death.
(Death)
The tree of life is where I will find my brother’s absolution.
(Jane)
As Death, you are out to clear War’s name and you’re going to do it with crunchy combat, nimble platforming and lot of lovely loot. Like the first game, Darksiders 2 does a great job of spicing God of War like action with a Zelda style hub and dungeon structure. New though is the Prince of Persia like platforming for clamboring around and the loot system for kitting out Skullface McNoMouth with ever better weapons and armour. As this grim reaper, you’ll be harvesting more random item drops than human skulls and among the rarest are possessed level weapons. These are weapons you can individually level up by permanently sacrificing other items to them. Very cool. And that’s all without delving into the skill trees that let you summon ghouls and crows or Death’s unholy winged reaper thorn. Darksiders 2 is an enormous adventure, with masses of variety but does credit to its many inspirations. For that, it’s out game of the week.
(Mike)
So here I am, genuinely dead. In limbo, killed after the pilot. And waiting for death to come and claim me. Um, I should probably check out this handbook for the recently deceased and see what I’m up against. Turns out I can challenge death to the game of my choice for a chance to claim back my soul.
[Electronic music plays]
(Mike)
How are you so good at this? You don’t even have ligaments!
(Andy)
What are we going to do for content now that Mike’s dead? He was supposed to do this feature, what is the deal with FPS’s? I was looking forward to that.
(Jane)
I, uh, guess we could contact him beyond the veil and see if he’s got any ideas for content.
(Andy)
Yeah, good idea. Let me call the psychic hotline.
(On the Phone) Hello? Uh yes I’m looking to get in contact with my friend Mike. He’s dead you see. Yeah. About 5’10, curly hair, doesn’t wear hats. Yes, yes, that’s the one.
(To Jane) Apparently, he’s left a message for us.
(Mike)
Alright guys sorry I can’t come to the phone. Currently locked in competition with the Grim Reaper in a selection of Xbox 360 games. Tell you what though, I had a snoop around his IMDB page while I waited for him to turn up. This guy is prolific. Turns out Death features heavily in video games and not just in the “I was repeatedly capped by a 12-year-old Call of Duty prodigy” sense either. The skeletal personification of Death, the Grim Reaper, must have a great agent because he’s more ubiquitous than Fearne Cotton. And very nearly as skinny too. Death might have a rare starring role in Darksiders 2 but arguably his most famous gaming appearance is in The Sims. Turning up like an unwelcome party guest to claim the souls of your neglected, malnourished, urine saturated virtual people. Previous games allowed other Sims to plead for the life of the victims but as of The Sims 3, the first in the series on Xbox 360, you have to beat him at Chess. If he’s not too busy playing Burnout Paradise, that is. Of course, when it comes to beating Death you can take a more hands on approach and thump him until he gives up. In Dante’s Inferno, the Reaper gets his bony arse handed to him within the first ten minutes of the game. Which begs the question, if his scythe isn’t powerful enough to kill a single puny poet, why does Dante bother to steal it and use it for the entire rest of the game? By and large, Paperboy was filled with pretty believable occupational hazards for a newspaper delivery boy. Dogs, skateboarders, the gradual decline of the print media, that sort of thing. Something of a surprise then to see Death turning up in suburban America with the express intention of clotheslining you off your BMX. Classic PC adventure game, Grim Fandango, featured an entire bureau of Grim Reapers of which hero Manny Calavera is one. In his role of Death, he acts as a sort of travel agent to the afterlife. Wonder how in competes with the ones offering a weekend call through with flights for less than 500 quid. Death’s a regular in Guitar Hero turning up as the “Grim Ripper” in no less than four of the games. Naturally, rather than a regular guitar he plays a heavily modified scythe. And it turns out you can perform fancy fretwork even if you have no flesh on your fingertips. Final Fantasy VII had a variety of weird and wonderful summons and while Hades shares a name with the Greek God of the Underworld, he’s the opposite of a strapping, bearded deity. With that hood and skull for a face, he’s clearly the Grim Reaper. Though he swapped his scythe for a more unwieldy cauldron. Perhaps he reaps souls with salmonella instead. Wouldn’t want to put money on which end it would come out though.
(To Death) Ah, friendly reaper inbound, right? Yeah? You know? Reaper? It’s ironic, right?
(Andy)
Well, I guess we should go through Mike’s will.
(Jane)
Yeah, right. Um. Huh, it looks like it’s just instructions on getting an achievement in Darksiders 2.
(Andy)
Weird, what does it say?
(Jane)
To whom it may concern, how are you? I am fine. If you’re reading this, I’m already dead. If you knew me, Mike Channel, in life you know I was a selfless, thoughtful kind of guy. That’s why I want my Last Will and Testament to bequeath ten easy gamer score on everyone. Or at least everyone who is playing Darksiders 2. The Triple Lindy is an easy but secret achievement and unlike most of Darksiders 2 ‘chivos it’s not one you’ll pick up just by completing the main quests and collecting all the collectibles. A few hours into the game, when you’re on the Heart of the Mountain main quest, you get access to The Foundry. As you’re working your way through this dungeon, you’ll come to this enormous open area over a big pool of water. On this wall to your left, up high, are three balconies. Now, you’re going to take Death for a swim. Jump in the pool, climb up the wall using the vines and your death grip power, turn right at the top and take a high dive back down into the water below. Swim back to the wall with the stroke of your choice, climb back on up and take a left at the top. Find the next balcony and take another dive. Try a somersault on the way down. Then it’s rinse and repeat, literally ha ha, as you reclimb the wall, go left again at the top and go for a triple pike back down into the water where you’ll find ten sweet gamer score waiting for you. So, there you go, my final gift to the world. Remember me for that, okay? And not whatever you find in my flat.
(Mike)
(singing) Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and desert you.
[Sounds of bells and whistling wind]
(Mike)
HA! In your face Death! You should have rubbed it on your cloak, see ya!
(To Andy) Ahhhh. I’ve defeated Death and managed to breach the barrier between the land of the living and the land of the dead. So, all I’ve gotta do now is finish my earthly business and then I can rest in peace.
(Andy)
Well Jane’s gone for coffee, do you have time to do the feedback with me?
(Mike)
Yeah, I’ve got five minutes.
(Andy)
In this week’s comments, we hear what you make of subterranean bounty hunter adventure Star Wars 1313 which may or may not be the salvation of the floundering Star Wars franchise. On Facebook, James Chiswell-Carter said “As far as I’m concerned, it can’t be as bad as Star Wars Kinect or Episodes 1-3, sticky tongue out face”. While Paul Lawrence asks “What was wrong with Stars War Kinect? Hahaha, fooled you, yeah it was rubbish!”. Aw man, classic bait and switch there. He sent us one way than bam, went the other.
(Mike)
Jedi mind trick. In a feedback for Andy’s preview of 1313, DivineJayBob says of the placeholder protagonist “stick a hipster beard on him and he looks a bit like Andy. Maybe Andy’s Boba Fett”.
(Andy)
Yeah, I don’t see it.
(Mike)
How do you feel about hunting bounties?
(Andy)
Ambivalent at best
(Mike)
Yeah, not a big fan of coconut either. Also on your Star Wars 1313 preview, Craig Dav… urgh, David Craig… [interrupted]
(Andy)
Oh god, not this again.
(Mike)
And John Brogan… [interrupted]
(Andy)
Yeah I was doing a… [interrupted]
(Mike)
And SpazzidNinjaDude all took issue with your pronunciation of coruscant.
(Andy)
And that was the best take we got.
[clip of Andy saying the word “Coruscant” in more increasingly bizarre ways ending with saying it as “Karen Carpenter”]
(Jane)
Dear insurance agency, as you can see from this episode of Show of the Week, Mike is definitely definitely dead and that’s why we as his close friends and beneficiaries of his estate should receive his life insurance pay out in full.
(Andy)
Thank you for watching.
(On the phone) Mike? Yeah, they bought it.
(Jane)
Camera’s still on.
(Andy)
It went off without a hitch.
(Jane)
Camera’s still on.
(Andy)
Oh, sorry, sorry.
(On the phone) Yeah, so we’ll split the money three ways.
(Jane)
Still on!
(Andy)
Oh, yeah sorry, sorry. Illegal things are the best!

ok, so i was really inspired by fialleril’s DAV AU and i wanted to try my hand with Tattooine slave culture and somehow i kinda made a fire’s on the outer rim fic??? like i did not intend to and some things are very different but the sentiment is essentially the same?? anyways its very short but i feel like I’m going to write more of this because i have been inspired
TW for Graphic depiction of surgery and slavery
Three Years (AO3)
Anakin Skywalker is nine when Jedi and Queens and Angels fall onto his desert world. He doesn’t leave with them.
He wins their pod race and gets them their parts, but part of him can’t leave. His home is here. His brother is here. His mother is here.
He sees his mother practically beg the jedi master to accept him; not an open pleading, but he can see that she is playing up his skills, his value, his worth. He loves her for it. She wants to give him the best life possible. She wants to spare him the pain of living in slavery.
He won’t accept that. Not if he has to leave her behind.
The jedi did not come here to free slaves.
That’s all Anakin has ever wanted. He won’t lose that part of himself. When Qui-gon takes him aside, Anakin whispers, “I won’t leave mom.” And Anakin can tell that Qui-gon wants to persuade him, but Anakin is not something to be bought and sold. “You don’t own me,” Anakin says, his head high and his hands shaking.
He almost expects violence, but Qui-gon just frowns, his eyes dark. “Of course,” he says and he sounds tired. “I can do nothing about your mother right now, but I’m sure I could convince the council to help fund your case.”
Anakin doesn’t think that he sounds very sure, but he nods his head as if he believes him.
“I’ll come back once the Queen is secure,” Qui-gon promises. “I think you have a greater destiny, Anakin Skywalker.”
A few days later, Anakin wakes up from a dream, and tears are streaming down his face. Shmi holds him as he cries and sings old, old songs to him. He doesn’t know how or why, but he knows that Qui-gon Jinn is not coming back.
Anakin Skywalker is twelve when he performs his first surgery, flesh parting beneath a sterilized scalpel, the slave before him biting down on their screams, their face twisted in utter agony. Shmi whispers words of strength in their ear and wipes away their tears with a rag. It’s similar to re-wiring a droid, except for the agony and the blood and the fact that if he fails he will either kill someone or make them explode.
He cuts a bit deeper, edging around the synthflesh wires twisted up into Maako’s chest cavity. They shudder and flinch and gasp, but they do not cry out. Anakin avoids an artery, and gestures for Kit to hold open the incision while he dismantles the device.
He holds himself perfectly still, his hands steady and his eyes sharp. He gently plucks away the wires, one by one, urging them out from the muscles and organs that they have burrowed into. This model of implant is new and expensive and very dangerous. After placement, it extends wire tendrils and forces the body to grow around them. Cutting or breaking them will trip the circuit and cause the device to explode.
Shmi is normally the one who would do this, but her hands are not steady enough, not anymore. Anakin has assisted enough to know what he is doing. That doesn’t stop him from being terrified. Being terrified doesn’t stop him from trying.
Finally, he plucks the explosive device out of the side of their chest with tweezers and drops it into a bowl. Beru rushes outside to bury it, far enough away that no one will know. Maako shivers, pain and exhilaration tearing through them. Kit sprays a blood blocker and hands Anakin a needle and surgical wire.
“You’re free,” Anakin whispers, his hands shaking and his heart singing in his chest. He sews up the incision and it comes out to precisely seven stitches. He feels something holy ignite in his veins, something burning and powerful. He looks up to see Maako’s gold eyes dripping tears and pained laughter coming from their throat. “You are free,” he says again, and he knows that this is his destiny.
Anakin Skywalker is fifteen when he buys his freedom from Watto. He pours the credits into Watto’s palm and snatches his detonator from the table. Watto grumbles and grouches and asks if Aankin will throw his next pod-racing match so he can pay off a gambling debt. “As a favor, you know? I was pretty good to you and Shmi.”
Anakin grins, his face all open delight, still baby faced and young. “Fuck you.” He walks away and it feels like everything could not be more right with the world.
That night, Anakin extends his arm to Kitster and smirks. “I have a request from our resident artist.”
Kit looks up from the stacks of coded flimsi before him, blinking himself back to reality. Seeing Anakin’s face, he jumps out of his chair and pulls his chosen-brother into a hug. About time,” he says, something warm sinking into his voice. “So you wanted a womp rat, right?”
Anakin laughs, short and surprised. He shakes his head, but he can’t stop smiling. “If I wanted something hideous, I’d get your face.”
“You wound me, Ani,” Kit says, “You really do.” He rolls his shoulders and cracks his knuckles, and the sound is loud enough that Anakin reminds himself that Kit needs to walk and move every now and then
“I know correspondence is important, but you can take breaks occasionally,” Anakin reminds. He pulls around a chair and sinks into it.
Kit calls out from the other room, “We’ve got about a hundred people on our wait-list—if their paths get screwed up, this will get nasty.”
Ankin winces when he hears the distinct sound of metal clashing together and something falling.
“Found it!” Kit announces. He bustles into the room and places an old case onto the table. He hands Anakin a bottle of anti-septic and begins to lay out the traditional tattoo inks and needles. Anakin dutifully wipes down his skin while Kit prepares everything. His motions are practiced, but Anakin can tell that his fingertips feel heavy with something meaningful.
When Kitster speaks again, it’s in Amatakka. “What can I give to you?”
Anakin replies in kind. “I ask for the mark of one with the power to choose.”
Kit nods and pulls Anakin’s arm a bit closer. The needle stings and burns, but Anakin would not trade away this pain for anything. He is free.
Over dinner later that night Kit says, “It’s shitty that you had to pay for it just to be able to walk outside.”
Anakin shrugs. “I got the money by stealing so many ship parts that I’ve lost track, so I honestly couldn’t care.”
#tsc#star wars#anakin skywalker#kitster bantai#tatooine#fic#star wars fic#PT#it comes around again#thats the tag for this AU ive decided#ill probably update this with what is happening in the wider universe too#who knows#yea so while this is heavily based on fialleril's ideas this is definitely my own plot#i love their writing so much but im too scared to tag them#also kit cant leave the house because he was smuggled to freedom and is back in mos epsa to help coordinate a revolution#anakin can't leave mos epsa#not with everything about to happen#so he had to buy his freedom#he says it doesnt bother him#but it kind of does#he plans on getting the money back from watto#watto was very surprised because anakin knows how to hide his distates very well#*distaste#Shmi was freed because Watto bet her as collateral and then lost#and the winner was a former slave who has a scam like this set up#they've freed like twenty people via this method#Anakin competed in races because watto was like hey that is super valuable#And anakin uses his winnings to finace the freedom trail#god this is a lot of extra info but this is the easiest place to write it down#meta in tags

Commander Log #1
((OUT OF CHARACTER: Apologies for such a dull, hurried, and long log for the first log. Before I left for home from vacation I had the opportunity to play on my brothers PC. So a lot of this took place then. Also since it had been a year and a half since I was able to play due to Hurricane Maria, when I got home I played a few days to get used to the controls as I had to rebind ALL my binds. So here is a summary of this long period of time. From here on every day played will have a role played flight log to go with it. It will be a log style with a bit of thoughts and feelings similar to my recovery logs. I hope you enjoy my journeys as I build my character. ))
[LOG SUMMARY]
It has been some time since I left the medical facility. So much to do and administrate before I could get flying again. I made it to Jameson Memorial as planned but the Wraith was still not quite finished yet. New exploration systems and new COVAS system had to be installed so while waiting I began some research. Apparently all the data I turned in along with others from Canonn Research has led to many new modules and SLFs with Guardian tech now. And with that I just had to get my hands on the FSD booster. So I bought the new Krait Phantom and kit it out for short distance exploration. I got word of a Guardian beacon at Synuefe KU-F b44-4 and decided to start there. The new Krait was a nice ship and handled well…...well save for the yaw which was only a very slight improvement to the Asp Explorer. The journey to the beacon was relaxing and as I approached the beacon my jaw dropped. Such an amazing sight to see! I activated the beacon and scanned the device and immediately received this ancient key and coordinates for Synuefe EU-Q c21-15 A 1 . I went to the new site and destroyed some sentinels and activated the structure. Guardian Vessel Blueprint Segment received….what? My information was wrong, this was for the SLF! I shook my head as I realized I was only half finished. I did more research and found that the site at Synuefe NL-N c23-4 B 3 had what I needed. So I headed to Synuefe NL-N c23-4 B 3 and did the whole process all over again. This time I got the Guardian Module Blueprint Segment. Now I had to get some materials and headed to Synuefe LY-I b42-2 C 2 for some easy mats at the Guardian site. It did not take long before I had what I needed and I headed out to Dunbar Ring in LTT 4428 to buy some HN Shock Mounts for a good price. I headed back to Jameson Memorial and unlocked the FSD booster. It was time to try it out. After all I have been through with the Wraith, I decided to begin the path to engineer her to the max. This meant I had to find all the Engineers I had not found and gain their favor. I jumped in the Wraith and headed out to do the Engineers’ bidding. It took only a few days to get a few more Engineers to accept my business but soon I began to run out of materials. I went to Dav’s Hope and gathered a lot of things there but I also needed some raw materials such as arsenic and vanadium and a few other things. I got wind of this double barnacle site in the California Sector that had a good supply of minerals. I decided to add the new Guardian FSD booster to the E.S. Ambition, my Anaconda kitted out for long range exploration. 70 ly! Around 70ly jump range with the new booster! I was astonished! I made my way to California Sector DL-Y d4 C 6 and landed at the barnacle site. I got in my SRV and began to gather more materials. I also discovered that this double barnacle had some Meta Alloys as well and I gathered about 15 of them before heading out. Ill head out to aDarnielle’s Progress in Maia and sell them for a few mil credits. As I came closer to Maia I receive a message from a pirate….of course he wants my cargo. After a few interdictions and my hull getting low, I decided to screw it and ejected all my Meta Alloys for him. But this bastard decided that his demands were not enough anymore and he began firing at me again. My Anaconda is basically a glass ship at this point and I quickly jumped out. Again he interdicted me, and again….I was down to 13% hull before I had the time to Jump to the next system and then another. By that time I had lost him. I exited supercruise and did some repairs with my AFMU. The reason it took so long to be able to jump to another system was that the pirate bastard had targeted my FSD and it was down to 1% ! So after I repaired my modules , still at 13% hull, I decided to just head back to Jameson Memorial and re think things. After arriving I thought it through and decided I needed a more relaxing way to make a living for a while….at least until I adjusted to my new Implants and re learned a few things. I decided to follow a path another Anonymous Commander sent me and decided to do some short range exploration. I found a list of some systems around the Bubble that had Water worlds, High Metal Content, and Earthlike bodies. I also received a reprimand from The Pilots Federation about not keeping my daily logs. So from here on out I will be more diligent on the matter, hence why this is a summary log of about a week. I decided to use my new Phantom and headed to HIP 14976 to begin my first scans. I visited a few systems and did some thorough scans and decided to call it a day and landed on one of the moons close to a ringed water world. I will head to my bunk now and get some much needed rest. Signing off, Cmdr Daymien Rogue

Artist: Voyager
Venue: The Borderline
Date: 3 July 2018
If ever I was going to test my ‘Man of Much Metal’ credentials, it was tonight. With England playing a rare knock-out game in the World Cup on the same night, it could have been easy to ditch the gig and find a pub to watch the game. However, I never entertained the idea because I was, frankly, desperate to see this show.
The reason for my desperation is simple. I love Voyager. The Western Australia-based quintet have been a big part of my life for a number of years, resulting in some well-earned positive reviews both for Powerplay Magazine and, more latterly, on manofmuchmetal.com.
But I digress. You see, despite my love for Voyager and the fact that they have played in the UK a few times, I had always conspired to miss them. Either I was skint, I had a poorly child, or some other catastrophe befell me at the eleventh hour. This time, I was not going to miss out, even if it did mean missing a Tottenham-heavy England team in Russia.
I joked with the band over social media beforehand, telling them that I had better not regret my decision. But blimey, I wasn’t expecting them to produce the fireworks that I finally witnessed.
But first, a word about the support acts. On stage first were Temples On Mars. Dogged by a strange mix at the outset, the UK-based quartet still managed to impress me. ‘This is heavier than I recall’ I said to myself as walls of guitars eventually came to the fore with power and increased clarity. I definitely preferred what I heard in the live arena as the increased muscularity really helped to support some subtle melodic sensibilities and a surprising sense of the epic. I hope it’s not too long before I get another taster of their live show. In the meantime, I have been convinced to return to their debut self-titled album to have another listen.
I’ll admit that I wasn’t as knowledgeable about Sümer as perhaps I should have been prior to tonight’s show. The London-based post-metal/progressive quintet have received rave reviews in certain quarters and I must admit that by the end of their intense set, I was somewhat converted too. The steadily-increasing crowd swayed and headbanged in unison as the grooves and the walls of guitar-driven sound were delivered with an incredible tightness and technicality. Despite the three guitars and dual vocalists, the star of the show for me was drummer Taria Dawson, who was savage behind the kit. In the same way as with Temples on Mars before them, I feel compelled to make my acquaintance with Sümer’s recorded output as soon as possible.
As much as I enjoyed the support acts, tonight was all about Voyager for me. And, from the moment that they strode onto the meagre stage at The Borderline, the place prickled with an atmosphere that I have not experienced much in recent years. And then they started playing. Holy heck!
I could go into detail at this point about the songs that Voyager decided to play. I could tell you that the set-list was a really nice blend of old and new, albeit with an unsurprising bias towards the last three records. I could therefore tell you that they played the likes of ‘Hyperventilating’ alongside ‘To The Riverside’ which then seamlessly segued into ‘Ghost Mile’. Or that, amongst others, ‘The Meaning of I’, ‘Ascension’, and ‘A Beautiful Mistake’ were all aired over a near 90-minute show.
However, if you’re a fan of the band, you know what these songs sound like. So instead, I want to focus on something that I found to be far more important about this performance: the band’s stage presence, energy and their presentation of their already excellent material.
From the beginning, the sheer exuberance of the five musicians was completely infectious. I have literally never seen so many smiles radiating off the stage before at a metal gig. These guys love what they do and it shows. Guitarist Simone Dow may be diminutive in stature, but she stood ten feet tall, a blur of intense headbanging, grins and cartoonish face-pulling, all aimed at engaging the audience and entertaining us all. Likewise, the imposing lead singer, Danny Estrin was all energy, moving around the stage to ensure that he gave each section of the crowd his attention. Bassist Alex Canion did the same and was arguably the most smiley lot of the bunch, with guitarist Scott Kay not far behind. Even the hirsute sticksman Ashley Doodkorte was a bundle of fun as much as possible behind his kit.
The on-stage banter between each member had a genuine feel to it; clearly Voyager are the best of friends and it came across. Stealing microphones, deliberately bumping into each other, back-to-back guitar shredding; it was all present and correct and then some. At times, I wasn’t sure where to look as things were happening all over the tiny stage.
And that’s before Danny Estrin’s famous crimson-red keytar made an appearance. ‘Oh yes, it is happening’ he muttered before launching into an electro dance-metal mash-up that got the crowd bouncing and losing their heads. In fact, the response of the audience throughout was rapturous and wholehearted, much to the visible delight, almost disbelief of the band.
The banter with the crowd was also worthy of entry alone. Chats about the long-haul flights, the ‘bland meal’ option, the weather and the World Cup were properly amusing, with even good-natured heckles being responded to with wit and warmth. ‘That seems like a reasonable request from a reasonable person’ was Danny’s reply when confronted with ‘Play ‘Ascension’, you c***s’. I laughed, the whole crowd laughed, as Voyager held us in the palm of their collective hand.
All these histrionics would have counted for nothing however, had the guys presented us with sloppy renditions of their material, the victim of misplaced energy. Unbelievably, that couldn’t have been further from the truth as the music, often complex and challenging in nature, was recreated with style, panache and a tightness that would have been impressive had they remained static, feet-staring statues throughout. The sound was pretty decent too, allowing the intricacies of the music to be heard, from those indulgent guitar solos, to Estrin’s unique and mesmerising voice, to the thundering bass and drum combo.
I have witnessed many gigs in my time, but even after a couple of days to step back and reflect, I do believe that this show was up there with the very best I have ever seen. As the five-piece took their well-deserved bow, I couldn’t help but shake my head in disbelief as I clapped – I’m still not sure that I believe what I witnessed. It was a special night , delivered by an equally special band, a band that has risen even higher in my estimations. One of my favourite bands? You’d better believe it.
PS: I apologise for the quality of my photos – I know that they are rubbish!
